Symphonic Wind Ensemble

Faculty Soloist Ann Ward, a native of Michigan, received the Bachelor of Music degree from Western Michigan University (1986) and both the Master of Music in Performance and the Master of Music Education degrees from Florida State University (1989). In addition to solo appearances with thte Florida State University Wind Orchestra and the Kalamazoo (Michigan) Symhony Orchestra, she has perfomed with the Battle Creek (Michigan) Symphony, South Bend (Indiana) Symphony, Jacksonville (Florida) Symphony, Savannah (Georgia) Symphony Orchestra, and the American Wind Symphony. Her teachers include Dr. Eric Ohlsson - Florida State Unversity, Dr. Robert Humiston - Western Michigan Universtiy, and Don Baker - the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Ward was appointed adjunct professor of oboe at Stetson University in 1989. She serves as Director of the Universiyt Double Reed Workshop and is Director of Instrumental Music at DeLand Middle School. Guest Conductor James Bishop is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern University where he was a student of Frederick Hemke. Mr. Bishop began his teaching career at Rockledge High School. After one year he was asked to return to Northwestern University to teach saxophone as Frederick Hemke's assistant. During .his eight-year tenure at Northwestern University he was also the Director of Chamber Music where his groups were laureates of the Coleman and Monterrey Chamber Music competitions. Mr. Bishop was the Instructor of Saxophone at the Interlochen Arts Academy for eight years. Since 1986 Mr. Bishop has been Instructor of Saxophone at Brevard Community College where he is also Director of Chamber Music and Instructor of Humanities. Mr. Bishop has performed solo recitals throughout the United States and in Europe. He has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Contemporary Chamber Players of Chicago, the Fred Hemke Saxophone Quartet and the Chicago Saxophone Quartet. In 1991, Mr. Bishop was appointed Adjunct Instructor of Saxophone at Stetson University.
