Description
Two identical scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings from the 1940 Democratic primary race for Florida Governor (Francis P. Whitehair versus Spessard L. Holland). One has Whitehair clippings, one has Holland clippings. Francis P. Whitehair was a Stetson alumnus, both undergraduate and law and was with the DeLand Law Firm of Landis, Fish, Hull, & Whitehair (currently Landis, Graham, French). He was a Secretary of the Navy under Truman and the Whitehair Bridge over the St. Johns River is named for him. Came in 2nd to Spessard Holland in the primary and defeated in the run-off. Holland won the election.
