The Outstanding Student Office Assistant Recognizes a student office assistant who has demonstrated professionalism, maturity and dedication to the CLaSS division and his/her office. This student is a key player in daily functioning of the office and routinely goes above and beyond. He or she maintains a positive attitude and contributes to the advancement of the office. The Giving Tree Book Award Honors a Stetson student who has dedicated him or herself to the local community. This individual has persistently dedicated his or her time to serve, without expecting anything in return. Like the tenacious tree in the story, who gracefully gave every part of himself to the boy until he became a stump, this student exemplifies unwavering resiliency and dedication to a local cause. Doyle Elam Carlton's Distinguished Service Award Recognizes a student who has selflessly dedicated his or her time to serving others in the Stetson and DeLand Community for the past year. This award represents the honorable work of Doyle Elam Carlton, who's name is reflected on our own Carlton Union Building, a 1909 Stetson graduate and Florida's governor during the Great Depression. Many people have profound admiration, affection, and gratitude for his great and selfless contributions to the life of the University, his state, and his nation. The student receiving this has also shown great dedication to putting others before themself and enhancing the Stetson community. The Mountains Beyond Mountains Book Award Is presented to a student who has selflessly dedicated his or her time to serving others in the local and global community for the past year Mountains Beyond Mountains details the life of Dr Paul Farmer a health practitioner who selflessly dedicated his life to ameliorating the lives of others in impoverished regions. The student receiving this award has shown great devotion to bettering the lives of others in the local and global community. Community Builder Award Is presented to a student who has made concerted efforts to build and strengthen the Stetson community in numerous settings on campus. This student has developed and implemented vibrant and educational initiatives that foster growth and development, inclusivity, and safety and security. This recipient has worked to achieve a community where students feel engaged and connected to the Stetson community each day. The Lorax Book Award Honors a student who has contributed to sustainability efforts on campus and beyond. Simply stated, sustainability is the capacity to endure. After depleting the land of its natural resources, the characters in The Lorax, realize the importance of respecting and sustaining the environment. This individual has developed a project related to recycling, increasing sustainable economic opportunities, generating global issue awareness, or to increasing awareness on campus pertaining to environmental responsibility. This honoree is not only committed to sustainability efforts, but also inspires others to do the same. The Diversity and Inclusivity Award Acknowledges an individual who has shown great leadership in the advancement of multicultural rights or LGBTQ issues at the infrastructural or interpersonal level. This recipient is a powerful player promoting human rights both here locally, and beyond. This student is willing to speak up for those with little to no voice, regardless of the peer response the student might receive. This individual is relentless in promoting social justice. The Zen Leader Award Is presented to a student who lives a balanced and healthy life and also encourages his or her fellow Hatters to do the same. Holistic wellness encompasses mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. This student does not get bogged down with the common unhealthy lifestyle; instead, he or she strives to achieve this holistic wellness. This student serves as a role-model to his or her peers and illustrates to others how to rise above the peer pressure and live a balanced life. The Little Engine That Could Award Honors an incoming student who has demonstrated dedication and commitment to the Stetson community at large. Many students wait until they are upperclassmen to step up and lead; however this student has decided to be a lead and advocate change as a new student. Similar to The Little Engine That Could, this recipient has persevered and succeeded in the face of adversity and seniority. Moreover this student exemplifies courage and the ability to create change in a new environment. This student is committed to leading a life of significance, to inspiring change, and is an advocate for his or her peers. The Greek Leader Award Recognizes a student that has positively impacted the fraternity and sorority community and has implemented change within his or her organization or on campus. This individual is a role model for the Stetson campus and the fraternity and sorority community. This individual excels academically and can be relied upon to promote the Greek community in a positive and meaningful way. This individual also exemplifies the values of his or her organization every day. The Leadership for a Better World Book Award Honors a student who has dedicated his or her time at Stetson to produce positive social change. This student has led a project or initiative to better the lives of those in the global and local community by advocating for their rights and creating policy changes. Often times, college students feel that they are too busy to make a true difference, but this student has done just that. The impact that this student has made in the community has a ripple effect on other students and encourages others to advocate social change in a variety of fields. The Phoenix Award Recognizes a student who has taken a waning organization or program and reinvigorated to take it to new heights. A phoenix rises from the ashes, just as this student has done with his or her organization. This recipient was able to transform a failing group and turn it into a growing, successful, mission-driven organization or event. This student persevered to make a positive difference. The Organization Advisor Award Honors an advisor that has gone above and beyond to mentor students and advise their student organization. The task of advising a student organization can often be daunting for a full-time university employee; however this advisor has dedicated his or her time to ensure the success of the organization and to empower student leaders. This recipient is an approachable mentor Student leaders are able to rely on this advisor for support, but are also given enough space as to grow into stronger more effective leaders. Most importantly, this advisor is dedicated to the development of not only the organization, but also of the students within that organization. The Altruistic Mentor Award Is presented to a CLaSS staff member that has made a significant investment into the lives of his or her students and staff. This person is an exemplary mentor and supervisor This award honors an individual who has fostered meaningful relationships with his or her supervisees by empowering them to achieve significance. The Giver Book Award Is presented to a faculty or staff member of Stetson that has made a significant investment into the lives of students. This person has gone beyond his or her job description to mentor students solely because he or she truly cares about the development each student as a whole. The Giver tells a story of passing on knowledge to the next generation, something that is crucial for the continued success of society. This award is for a person who similarly understands the importance of fostering the next generation. The Chicken Soup for the Soul Award Is presented to any staff member who has supported Campus Life and Student Success. Part of Stetson's appeal is that it does feels like a home, and this is only possible because of all the people doing the work behind the scenes. This award recognizes someone who goes beyond what is required in order to ensure that every student and department has a positive experience at Stetson. Interacting with this person is as consoling to the soul as chicken soup. This person improves campus by positively interacting with students, excelling at his or her job, and by simply having a positive attitude every day. The Extraordinary Leader Award Is presented to a student who is an exemplary leader in the Stetson Community. This student has demonstrated brilliant leadership qualities through their commitment and dedication to Stetson University and the campus. This student is an active agent, driving other Stetson students from success towards significance each day. This recipient exemplifies the university's core values by infusing them into their involvement inside and outside the classroom. He or she excels academically, volunteers time and energy to the community, and is actively involved in several organizations across campus. This student also has a visible presence on campus. As a mentor and a leader this recipient encourages others to strive to live and achieve greatness. And... The Hatter Lifetime Dedication Award
