President Chris Roellke addresses Stetson faculty and staff at the DeLand Campus Faculty and Staff Meeting held in the Warren and Barbara Carr Stetson Room, November 7, 2024. President Roellke addressed anticipated impacts to higher education as a result of the recent Presidential election. His bipartisan considerations included acknowledging that the Department of Education may be affected or, potentially, dissolved; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) may continue to be contested; changes to student loans - including the termination of forgiveness plans and PELL grants; changes to accreditation processes; continued criticism of public and private education, including higher education institutions; continued attention on expelling transgender individuals from athletics; potential limits on student protests and free speech; the creation of a national online university, among other potential outcomes.
