During the duPont-Ball Library's annual faculty promotion reception, Dr. Washington Garcia (Dean of the School of Music) introduces the J. Ohlsson West Woodwind Quintet, August 15, 2025. The J. Ohlsson West Woodwind Quintet includes (from front to back): Rachel Kirkland, Nicholas Lowther, Raisa Carrillo, Cole Duncan, and David A. Jaimes. Creating the J. Ohlsson West Woodwind Quintet named in honor of late School of Music Dean Jean Ohlsson West began when Lynn Musco (Professor of Music, Chair of Faculty Development-School of Music, Woodwind Area Coordinator, Artist/Clinician for Buffet Crampon and Gonzalez Reeds) started her career at Stetson 38 years ago. Student members were selected through live auditions and interviews with those selected exhibiting technical expertise and musical integrity in their performance skills as well as a strong personal work ethic and a high level of self-motivation. School of Music professors wanted to ensure that only the most exceptional musicians are part of the ensemble. As members of comprise the Universitys first woodwind quintet, the students received full tuition. The quintet rehearses together two to three hours a week throughout their degree programs and completes an additional hour of one-on-one coaching every week. - Stetson University Archives
